here is our Christmas 20 letter, writtten by Maryanne
As I look back over the past year I am stunned at how quickly it has passed. It was a year filled with joy, discovery and change as David and I experienced the “marathon” first year of raising our son, Eric. This time last year he was one week old, our new gift and “Eric” was just a name, but now I can’t help smiling as I type it out, for we have discovered so much of who he is: a delightful detective, an avid giggler – always eager to smile and laugh, a very social and very expressive package. It’s amazing how much love and life God places in a little human heart. Eric is certainly one of the greatest gifts David and I have ever received from God.
With the holiday season upon us it started me thinking about the giving and receiving we practice this time every year. As we celebrate Christmas again let me challenge you to do one thing – discover the gift God has for you this year.
What unwrapped gift have you set aside or not even noticed in the busy life you lead? Is it joy in daily life that persists despite difficult circumstances? Is it strength that goes beyond our human ability that is promised to us if we ask Him for it? Is it courage to accomplish something bigger than you think you can do? Is it forgiveness and peace with God that He has lovingly offered, but you have held at arms length?
A gift only becomes ours when we reach out, unwrap and receive it. What awesome gift is sitting undiscovered under the tree for you? Take a look, take it to yourself – you’ll be delighted and then thank Him for His loving kindness!
We thank God for your love, for the blessings He has given us in Jesus, in family and friends. May His love be ever present in your life this Christmas and in the year ahead. Love, David, Maryanne and Eric

today is a big day for Eric, today is his birthday. He is one year old today. this past year has been a blur. starting with 2 weeks before he was born, daddy started a new job at BeXcom, an internet B2B ecommerce startup in the US. working with Randy Roberts, long time friend. mommy is staying at home with Eric. the first year of a child's life is the most impressive as far as growing is concerned. he weighed 8 pounds at birth and now he is 21 pounds, almost tripling his weight. he is feeding himself finger foods and learning how to spoon feed. he is walking almost running all over the house. he gets into everything that is within his reach. if you do not remember to move it or close it, he will notice and get in to it or out of it. he loves the bath, all you have to do is start the water running and open the gate, he runs down to the bathroom and can not wait to get his clothes off to get in the tub. after the bath, he gets a bottle and a book read to him, then off to bed without too much complaining, he talks himself to sleep and usually sleeps through the night until 6:00am for his morning feeding. he has 3 teeth on the top and 2 teeth on the bottom, the fourth on the top will break through any day now.
Daddy is currently looking for a new job, since he will be laid off at the end of the year. mommy is trying to keep up with Eric.

Yesterday, (12/7), he let daddy give him a bottle in the morning, he usually nurses with mommy in the mornign, this is another step in the weaning process.

he woke up this morning at 4:30, daddy put him back down and gave him some teething gel, he went back to sleep for about 2 hours, so mommy and daddy got some extra sleep.

mommy is starting to curb his morning feeding by giving him a bottle half way through the nursing.

he is so good in the tub, all you have to do is turn on the water to fill the tub, take off his clothes, and he goes running down to take a bath.

momy taught him how to "flick" cherrios off his high chair tray. now he "flicks" them until he feels like eating them.
he has been very cranky today. I just put him down for his nap, @ 5:00pm.
Last night after his bath was funny, while dressing him after his bath I usually play peek-a-boo with him to keep his mind off the dressing, which he dislikes. he was pulling the towell down over his face then raising it and smileing as if he wanted to play peek-a-boo.
mommy observed that when he goes to put something into his month that he is not supposed to, he shakes his head back and forth, telling himself no, no.
